1. The Pilot (The One Where Monica Gets a Roommate)

Rachel walks into Central Perk in her wedding dress after leaving Barry at the altar. Monica, who has just been comforted by the group over Ross's divorce, offers her a room. Ross wrestles with being newly single.

Ross learns that Carol, his ex-wife, is pregnant with his child. Rachel returns Barry's ring. Phoebe meets Frank, an 18-year-old, in a memorable side plot.

Phoebe discovers extra money in her bank account that isn't hers, then later finds a severed thumb in a can of soda. Monica's new boyfriend Alan gets an overwhelming welcome from the group, and Chandler falls back into smoking.

4. The One with George Stephanopoulos

The women order a pizza that is accidentally delivered to George Stephanopoulos across the street and spend the night spying on him. Rachel gets her first paycheck and sees how much goes to taxes. The men's hockey night ends at the hospital on the anniversary of Ross sleeping with Carol.

5. The One with the East German Laundry Detergent

Ross takes Rachel to the laundromat for her first-ever laundry session, where he teaches her sorting with "East German Laundry Detergent." Chandler's attempt to break up with Janice goes badly, and Joey uses Monica in a double-date scheme that ends with Rachel standing up to a pushy woman and kissing Ross.

6. The One with the Butt

Joey lands a bit part as Al Pacino's butt double. Chandler gets tangled up with Aurora, whose complicated love life (married, with a boyfriend, and another boyfriend) overwhelms him. Monica's apartment gets "cleaned" and rearranged by Rachel, triggering her type-A instincts.

7. The One with the Blackout

A city-wide blackout strands Chandler in an ATM vestibule with a model. Ross tries to confess his feelings to Rachel but is derailed by a cat, and Paolo enters the story as the cat's owner. Phoebe sings a quirky blackout song.

8. The One Where Nana Dies Twice

Monica and Ross's grandmother appears to die, briefly comes back, then dies again. Ross falls into the grave at the funeral. Chandler discovers his coworkers — and the friends — thought he was gay when they first met him.
